Russian President Appoints Personal Envoy for Georgian-Abkhazian Conflict

(Tbilisi, April 1, Civil Georgia) – Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Valeri Loshchinin as his personal representative for the Georgian-Abkhazian settlement, the Russian news agency Interfax reports, quoting presidential press service on April 1.

Valeri Loshchinin is State Secretary and First Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia.

From the Georgian side, Head of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze is the Georgian President’s personal envoy for the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict resolution.

On March 30 Russian President stated that he supports implementation of the document on distribution of constitutional rights between Sokhumi [breakaway Abkhazian capital] and Tbilisi.

The document details remain confidential, but Georgian officials hail its provisions that consider Abkhazia as a part of the Georgian state.
