Shevardnadze Threatens to Sack Ministers

(Tbilisi, April 3, Civil Georgia) – “If I see in the nearest 2-3 months that the government is not ready for defeating corruption I will dismiss the Ministers”, President Shevardnadze announced at the government meating today.

Before making this statement Eduard Shevardnadze spoke about corruption in the Law Enforcement Agencies and demanded reaction on particular cases.

At the government’s meeting on April 3 State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze made a report on anticorruption activities. He criticized Tax Revenue Ministry and demanded from Minister Levan Dzneladze to carry out serious changes in the staff.

As a result of mass protests President Shevardnadze has already dismissed the whole executive government on November 1 last year, appointing nearly the same Ministers later on.
