CoE Wants Georgia to Fulfill Its Obligations

Chairman of the Ministerial Committee of the Council of Europe [CoE] and Foreign Minister of Lithuania Antanas Valionis stated on April 10 that Georgia should adopt Convention on National Minorities.

Antanas Valionis pays two day visit to Georgia to evaluate implementation of stipulations laid down by the CoE, when Georgia joined the organization in 1999. Adoption of Convention on National Minorities is one of them.

The protection of human rights and freedom of religion, the adoption of a law on self-governance and a new electoral code also causes dissatisfaction of CoE.

Chairman of the Ministerial Committee of the CoE is to make a report on his visit to Georgia at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the end of April.
