Reformers Appeal Supreme Court on CUG Cancellation Case

(Tbilisi, May 7, Civil.ge) – Today supporters of Zurab Zhvania are to appeal Supreme Court with request to annul decision of the Tbilisi district court on suspension of registration of the Citizens’ Union of Georgia [CUG] party.

District court suspended party’s registration on basis of request of the pro-presidential members of the CUG, led by the influential governor of Kvemo Kartli region Levan Mamaladze.

As a result the CUG will not be able to participate in the local self-governance elections, scheduled for June 2.

Zurab Zhvania holds consultations with President Shevardnadze with the case. After the meeting with the President on May 6 Zurab Zhvania stated that a little progress was reached on the future of the party, but Zhvania added that he will never be in the party together with Levan Mamaladze and his supporters.
