Georgia to Strengthen Borders with Russia

(Tbilisi, May 11, Civil.ge) – Georgian National Security Council’s meeting on May 10 took the decision to reinforce borders with Russian Federation.

Georgian border with Russia lays on the mountainous regions and after the snow starts to melt the movement of the armed groups, mainly across the Chechen sector of the border is anticipated. 

Commander of the Georgian Border Guard Department Valeri Chkheidze stated after the Security Council’s meeting that he demanded to open additional checkpoints of the border guards.

Russia also launched reinforcement of the border with Georgia. On May 8 Russian Caucasus Regional Border Guard Department reported that it establishes additional checkpoints at the border with Georgia.
