Reformers Protest Police Involvement in Pre-Election Campaign of Parties

(Tbilisi, May 16, Civil.ge) – Reformers’ faction member Nodar Grigalashvili stated that governor of Kvemo Kartli region organizes mass obstruction to the New National Movement pre-election campaign in Rustavi town of Kvemo Kartli region on May 16.

“Police of the region intends to hinder meeting of New National Movement leaders with the local population of Rustavi,” Grigalashvili stated.

Former Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Elene Tevdoradze stated today at the session that the regional police departments are involved the election campaign of the political parties, that is against law.

“People from the different regions inform me that in case someone attends the meeting of the opposition party he would be blackmailed and pressured from the police not to take part in the meetings organized by the political force, which is in government’s opposition,” Elene Tevdoradze said.

Tevdoradze stated that she hoped with the appointment of Koba Narchemashvili on the post of the Interior Minister “many things would have changed in the law enforcement agencies, but there is no change so far”.
