Russians, Abkhazians Deny Plans to Attack Kodori

(Tbilisi, May 17, Civil Georgia) – Russian Defense Ministry denied reports of the Georgian Intelligence Chief Avtandil Ioseliani that Russians together with the Abkhazian side intend to attack Georgian controlled Kodori gorge in breakaway Abkhazia.

“This absolutely groundless information cannot cause anything but surprise,” Defence Ministry spokesman Col Nikolay Deryabin told Russian news agency Interfax.

Abkhazian side also denied reports. Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze stated on May 16 that he has no information concerning the deployment of Russian and Abkhazian troops near the Georgian controlled gorge.
