MPs Cease Discussion of the Draft Laws and Initiate Redistribution of Posts

(Tbilisi, May 17, Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary special session on May 17 decided to cease discussions of the draft laws and start elections of the Parliamentary Committees’ Chairmen and the Vice-Speakers.

Parliament was discussing draft on state language in the morning but stropped the discussion as some of the MPs stated that the Parliament was not ready to discuss the draft.

On May 10 all the Chairmen of the Committees resigned, only Giorgi Baramidze, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee was dismissed, after the New Rights faction initiated issue of redistribution of the Parliamentary posts.

The New Rights faction members say that after the collapse of the Parliamentary majority – Citizens’ Union, the members of the former majority had to resign from their posts.
