President Met CIS Security Chiefs

(Tbilisi, May 17, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze met Security Chiefs of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States [CIS] on May 17. On May 15-16 meeting of the CIS security chiefs was held in Likani, Georgia.

At the meeting with the Georgian President, Eduard Shevardnadze was informed concerning the issues discussed during summit.

After the meeting with President Shevardnadze Nikolai Patrushev, Chief of the Russian Federal Security Service stated at the news briefing that the issues of the anti-terrorist measures, fight against drug trafficking and illegal migration in the agenda of the summit.

Patrushev stated that the terrorism is not only the Russia’s problem, it concern Georgia too. He said that Russia would respect US-Georgian cooperation in this regard.

Georgian President also met the representatives of the US military delegation, which carried out the logistical coordination of the Train-and-Equip program, in frames of which US military trainers will prepare Georgian anti-terrorist units.
