Parliament Wants to Ban Export of Nonferrous Metals

(Tbilisi, May 18, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Parliament rejected to discuss the draft law on regulation of the export of the nonferrous metals from Georgia on May 18.

The most of the MPs stated at the session today that the export of the nonferrous metals should be banned.

Georgian Parliament has already banned export of the scarp metal. Suspension of the moratorium on export of the scarp metal is one of the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund [IMF].  

Leader of the Industrialists faction Zurab Tkemaladze stated at the Parliamentary session on May 18 that it is necessary to consult with the representatives of the IMF on the issue, before that time discussion of the draft should be postponed. 

38 tone of nonferrous metal was exported from Georgia in 2001.
