Former High Official Committed a Suicide

(Tbilisi, May 24, Civil Georgia) – Davit Megrelidze, former Deputy Minister of Tax Revenues, committed a suicide in his own flat today at 10 am.

Megrelidze was found dead by his wife. The suicide was committed by a handgun.

Motive of the suicide is unknown. The Prosecutor’s Office has put the case under investigation.

Megrelidze had to leave the post as the Finance and Tax Revenue Ministries were recently merged.

In 2002 this is the second case when the state official commits a suicide. In February Nugzar Sajaia, Secretary of the National Security Council committed suicide.
