Georgian Security Chief, Ukrainian High Officials Discussed Abkhazia Issue

(Tbilisi, June 7, Civil Georgia) – Tedo Japaridze, Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council, who visits Ukraine, discussed with the Ukrainian leadership situation in Abkhazia and Georgian-Ukrainian relations on June 7.

News agency Interfax-Ukraine reports quoting Anatoli Zlenko that peace talks between the Georgian and Abkhazian sides should be renewed.

At the joint news briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Tedo Japaridze said that Georgia is for involvement of Ukraine in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict settlement. Japaridze stated that during the meeting with the Ukrainian President they discussed the ways of Ukraine’s participation in the peace process.

During his visit to Georgia in January Foreign Minister Anatoli Zlenko stated that Ukraine will agree to participate in the peacekeeping operations in Abkhazia in case the operation is held under the auspices of the UN and not the Commonwealth of Independent States as it is now.
