Incident at Vaziani Base not to Hinder GTEP – Georgian Defense Minister Says
(Tbilisi, June 11, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze stated today that the incident at Vaziani military base, when the military equipment was stolen from the base will not hinder implementation of the US sponsored Georgia Train-and-Equip program (GTEP).
13 machineguns and other military equipment have been stolen from the base. Georgian Military Prosecutor’s Office investigates the case.
At Vaziani Georgian battalions will be trained by the US military instructors within the frames of the GTEP. NATO military exercises within the Partnership for Peace program will also be held at the base on June 17-28.
Davit Tevzadze said at the news briefing on June 11 that he intends to meet the Military Prosecutor of Georgia today concerning the incident at Vaziani.
