US State Department Statement not Unexpected for Georgia

(Tbilisi, June 21, Civil Georgia) – US State Department statement supporting prolongation of the Russian peacekeepers’ mandate was not unexpected for the Georgian authorities, Irakli Menagharishvili, Georgian Foreign Minister, stated today.

“United States is a friendly nation and it does not want the situation here to aggravate. Also it is well-known that Georgian government has never officially raised the issue of cancelling the mandate. We talk about modification of the mandate only”, Menagharishvili stated.
