CUG Assembly

(Tbilisi, June 29, Civil Georgia) – Today Presidential controlled Citizens’ Union of Georgia (CUG) party holds the first assembly after the reformers group led by Zurab Zhvania was forced to leave the party and the pro-Presidential group took over the CUG.

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze and other high officials participate in the assembly.

The State Minister said at the assembly that the CUG occurred in the difficult situation because of some circumstances, but now it is time to reinforce positions.

“Now I realize that President Shevardnadze made wise decision when he agreed on reanimation of the Citizens’ Union party,” Leader of the pro-Presidential Parliamentary faction Alliance for New Georgia Irakli Gogava stated.

It is anticipated that the State Minister will be elected on the post of the CUG chairman and the President will hold symbolic post – honorable chairman of the party.
