Shevardnadze Wants Jorbenadze to Be His Successor

(Tbilisi, June 30, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze does not rules out that he will nominate State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze on the post of the President in the Presidential elections scheduled for 2005.

At the Citizens’ Union of Georgia (CUG) party assembly on June 29 Eduard Shevardnadze said that beside Jorbenadze there could be several other contenders for the Presidential post. 

In his speech the President said that the CUG’s one of the main goals should be victory in the Parliamentary and Presidential elections. Parliamentary elections are scheduled by 2003.

State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze was elected on the post of the chairman of the CUG party today.
