Breakaway Region Aspires Accession to Russia

(Tbilisi, July 5, Civil Georgia) – Unrecognized South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoiti stated at the news briefing in Moscow on July 5, that he intends to fulfill Ossetia’s wish to join the Russian Federation.

“Our slogan is “together with Georgia forever, in Georgia – never,” President of breakaway South Ossetia, the northern part of Georgia, said.

According to Kokoiti 60% of population living in South Ossetia are the Russian citizens.

In result of ethnic conflict in 1990-1992 central government of Georgia had lost control of the region. In result of peace process, the control has been partially restored in several villages populated by ethnic Georgians.
