Security Minister Says Some Politicians Might Be Involved in Abduction Cases

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 12, 2002) – Valeri Khaburdzania, Georgian State Security Minister told the reporters after the meeting of the National Security Council on July 12 that some political groups might be involved in the kidnapping cases.

The Minister did not specified which political groups might be involved in the criminal activity.

At the Council’s meeting today President Shevardnadze categorically demanded from the law enforcers to investigate British citizen Peter Shaw’s abduction case and release him in the nearest days.

The State Security Minister said that the political groups linked to the criminals and the secret services of the foreign countries aim destabilization in the country through abduction of citizens.
