Suspect in Attack on Liberty Institute Arrested

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 18, 2002) – Reports say today law enforcers arrested Giorgi Doijashvili, one of the suspects in attack against the human rights NGO Liberty Institute on July 10.

According to the Liberty Institute arrested person claims that the only reason of attack against the NGO was that the Institute defends rights of religious minorities, especially the rights of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Davit Zurabishvili of Liberty Institute, which was beaten during the attack, says that motive of attack is not understandable. He said that the attack was well organized and was not a spontaneous one as the suspect claims.
