Report by Chamber of Control on Corruption
(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 21, 2002) – Chairman of Chamber of Control Sulkhan Molashvili delivered a report on the corruption in the state agencies.
The Chairman made emphasis on the energy sector. According to him, Davit Bezhuashvili, former president of “Sakgazi” and present MP, purchased almost every gas grid companies in Georgia for only 540 000 US dollars.
Bezhuashvili’s interests have been lobbied by the leader of Nationalist Movement and MP Mikheil Saakashvili, Molashvili said.
In addition, the Chairman of the Chamber of Control accused former Minister of Justice Saakashvili of having misused 105 000 GEL during his stay in office.
President Shevardnadze told ministers of law enforcement agencies and General Prosecutor to take into account the report and make proper reaction.
