Peter Shaw Alive – Interior Minister Says
(Tbilisi, September 4, 2002, Civil Georgia) – “Peter Shaw is alive and we hope that he will be freed as a result of the operation that is running in Pankisi gorge,” Georgian Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili told the reporters today.
“We are doing our best for successful release of Peter Shaw,” Narchemashvili said who visited Pankisi gorge on September 3.
Seven gunmen kidnapped Peter Shaw, director of Agro-Business Bank of Georgia in Tbilisi on June 18.
The Interior Minister said that the on-going phase of the anti-criminal operation in Pankisi aims at releasing hostages kept in detention in Pankisi gorge. The monk Basil Machitadze is also thought to be detained in Pankisi.
