Parliamentary Chairperson, NGO Discussed Draft Law on Freedom of Speech

(Tbilisi, September 4, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and the human rights and advocacy NGO Liberty Institute discussed today the draft law on Freedom of Speech.

The draft law is approved by the Parliament with the first hearing, but the Council of Europe (CoE) recommended some amendments to the draft. The Liberty Institute worked out the draft on the bases of the CoE recommendations.

Nino Burjanadze stated that the draft absolutely corresponds the international standards.

The presentation of the draft law will take place on September 16. After the approval of the draft the work over the journalism ethics would start.
