Labor Party Wants to Impeach Tbilisi Mayor

(Tbilisi, September 5, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Labor Party of Georgia, which won the local elections in Georgian capital Tbilisi, intends to initiate impeachment procedure of Tbilisi Mayor Vano Zodelava.

Leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili stated at the news briefing today that Tbilisi Mayor should be dismissed because of involvement in the corruption and misuse of power.

This will be the first case of impeachment procedure against Tbilisi Mayor. The members of Sakrebulo – City Council are able to initiate the procedure. Tbilisi Sakrebulo is not convened so far because the votes, cast during the local elections in Tbilisi, are being recounted, so the procedure might start only after the votes will be recounted.
