Russia Against the Draft Resolution of PACE on Situation in Georgia
(Tbilisi, September 10, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Russian delegation to Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe is dissatisfied with the draft of the resolution on situation in Georgia, elaborated by the Political Affairs Committee of PACE on September 9 in Paris.
Mikhail Margelov, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federal Council and the member of the Russian delegation to PACE told the RIA Novosti news agency that the document is “extremely subjective.”
According to Margelov there is no statement in the resolution that Georgia does not combat terrorism on its territory. The document only talks concerning the presence of terrorist groups in Georgia and bombardment of the Georgian territories by the unidentified fighter jets.
The PACE will discuss the draft of the resolution on situation in Georgia at the session which starts on September 23.
