Shevardnadze Says AES-Telasi is a Burden

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 4, 2002) – At the government’s meeting today President Shevardnadze criticized AES-Telasi electricity distributing company’s activity.

“We had great expectations on this company. It invested up to USD 300 million, but now it become a burden for the country,” Eduard Shevardnadze said.

Georgian President said that the company’s head office is in a trouble now and has “huge debts.”

The US company AES rented the Tbilisi electric power distribution system for 99 years in 1999.

AES also controls the power facilities in Gardabani, where the company AES-Mtkvari was created.
