Opposition Claims CUG Pressures Teachers to Enter the Party
(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 6, 2002) – At the Parliamentary session today MP Giorgi Baramidze of opposition United Democrats faction expressed protest against pro-governmental Citizens’ Union of Georgia (CUG) party’s activity in the regions.
Baramidze said that the CUG compels the teachers of the schools in the Georgian regions to enter the party’s membership. He said that the CUG’s action is antidemocratic that threatens conduction of the fair parliamentary elections in 2003.
Opposition MP’s statement caused argument in the Parliament. Members of the CUG categorically denied the accusation.
