No Immediate Consensus to Move Abkhaz Peace Process Forward
(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 11, 2002) – UN Under-Secretary-General for the peacekeeping operations Jean-Marie Guehenno briefed the Security Council on December 9 on the Georgia-Abkhazia situation.
RFE/RL reports quoting diplomat that no immediate consensus was reached on how to move the peace process forward.
On November 8-12 Jean-Marie Guehenno visited Georgia. The UN official offered the Georgian and Abkhazian sides to resolve the conflict on the basis of so called “Boden Document”, which confers wide autonomy to Abkhazia within the Georgian state. Abkhaz officials reject the document.
UN top officials informed the Security Council regarding his visit to Georgia and on situation in the conflict zone.
