(Tbilisi, December 14, 2002. Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze appointed vice-speaker of the Parliament Vakhtang Rcheulishvili on the post of his representative for the Georgian-Ossetian conflict settlement.
State Chancellery reports that President Shevardnadze held meeting the vice-speaker on December 13.
Rcheulishvili, which is the leader of the Socialist party, recently has officially announced that his party and the pro-presidential Citizens’ Union of Georgia party would be allies. Rcheulishvili is known for his initiatives for the closer ties with Russia.
President Shevardnadze’s personal representative for the Abkhazian conflict settlement is leader of Adjarian Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze.
