First Georgian Commandos Graduate from US-funded Training Program

(Tbilisi, December 16, 2002. Civil Georgia) – A ceremony marking the completion of the six-month training course under the US-sponsored Georgian Train and Equip Program (GTEP) was held in Tbilisi on December 15.

Up to 600 Georgian commandos marched in the center of Tbilisi. Georgian President, US ambassador in Georgia and other officials attended the ceremony.

The United States allocated USD 64 million to train and equip Georgian troops. Up to 2500 Georgian soldiers will undergo the training course.
