Court Rules Vote Recount in Rustavi
(Tbilisi, December 19, 2002. Civil Georgia) – On December 18 Supreme Court ruled positively on appeal of the election watchdog NGO International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) to recount the votes cast during the MP by-election in Rustavi town on November 30.
The Central Elections Commission declared the elections in Rustavi valid, while the ISFED claimed that the election was invalid because of the low turnout of the voters.
Earlier court ruled that the votes in Tbilisi’s Saburtalo constituency, where the MP by-election was held on November 30 should be recounted as well. The Central Election Commission declared elections in Saburtalo invalid, because of the voters’ low turnout.
