Zhvania, Shevardnadze Discussed Situation in Parliament

(Tbilisi, December 23, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Former Parliamentary Chairman and the leader of the opposition United Democrats Party Zurab Zhvania met President Shevardnadze on December 22.

Situation in the Parliament that occurred after the walk-out of the pro-Presidential factions was in the top of the agenda during the meeting.

Five factions boycotted Parliamentary session on December 19-20, thus hindering launch of discussion of the 2003 draft budget and the draft law on minimal salaries.

The latter one was also discussed during the meeting of the opposition leader and the President. The draft law considers increase of the minimal salaries to the living wage.

Opposition claims that the real reason of boycott was government’s objection towards the draft law on minimal salary.
