Pipes for BTC Shipped to Georgia

(Tbilisi, January 14, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The British liner Caledonia delivered the pipes for the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in Georgian port of Poti today.

The equipment for the BTC will be transported from Georgia to Baku. The second part of the pipes will be delivered to Georgia on January 22 for construction of the Georgian part of the BTC.

While the pipes were delivered Georgian President together with the State Security and Interior Minister held a meeting with the representatives of the British Petroleum to discuss the security issues of the project.  

The construction of the BTC is anticipated to start in spring, 2003.  Georgian government gave a go-ahead to BTC construction last December.
