Coast Guard Command Center Opens in Poti

The command center of the Georgian coast guard service will be established in a western Georgian city of Poti on September 18, with the assistance of the United States coast guard.

“The command center will enable Georgian coast guards to control the entire perimeter of the Black Sea coast”, Eka Dondua, the spokesperson for the Georgian Border Guard Department told Civil Georgia on September 18.

Vice Admiral Thomas Barrett, Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard, who arrived in Georgia on September 17 to estimate the course of reformation in the Georgian coast guard service, will attend the opening ceremony as well.

During his meeting with President Shevardnadze on September 17 Vice Admiral Thomas Barrett hailed the reformation in the Georgian coast guard service and expressed readiness for rendering further technical assistance.
