Russia Offers Reopening of the Russia-Georgia-Armenia Railway

(Tbilisi, January 24, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian vice-premier Viktor Khristenko at the meeting with Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze today suggested reopening the railway connection between Russia and Armenia via Georgia.

The railway connection between Armenia, Georgia and Russia was stopped after the armed conflict in Abkhazia.

Nino Burjanadze at the meeting with the Russia’s vice-premier expressed protest concerning the Russia’s unilateral decision to reopen railway connection between Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia and Russia.

“Lets leave this irritating issue and think over how to reopen the entire railway connection [between Russia and Armenia via Georgia’s Abkhaz region],” Viktor Khristenko offered Georgian side.
