Shevardnadze Consults with IMF, Calls Late Night Cabinet Meeting
(Tbilisi,February 24, Civil Georgia) President Eduard Shevardnadze convened an emergency ministerial meeting following his unscheduled consultations with the visiting IMF delegation earlier today.
The meeting took place behind the closed door. Reportedly the economic issues were discussed, in connection with unfavorable assessment of specific economic trends by the IMF representatives, especially in taxation and energy fields.
IMF support is crucial as Georgia heads towards the landmark parliamentary elections and the foreign debt rescheduling talks later this year.
