National Security Council Discusses Anti-Crime Operation in Pankisi
(Tbilisi. February 28, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian National Security Council discusses today plan of new phase of the anti-crime operation in Pankisi gorge.
Georgian authorities try to prevent penetration of Chechen militants in the gorge and maintain stability in Pankisi, achieved after the anti-crime operation held in August-November 2002.
New measures to strengthen security in the gorge also consider reinforcement of the Russian-Georgian border with the additional units of the Border Guard Department of Georgia.
