Political Parties to Compose CEC
(Tbilisi. April 1, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The Parliament will discuss amendments to the Election Code at the session next week. During the Parliamentary Bureau meeting on March 31 leaders of the factions agreed to discuss the proposal agreed by the group of MPs working on election system reform.
According to the amendments the new Central Election Commission (CEC), which is the main election body responsible for management of the elections, will be composed with the representatives of the political parties.
The Parliamentary group working on election system reform, which is composed with the representatives of the Parliamentary factions, rejected the proposal on composition of the CEC with the NGO representatives.
All the political parties agree that the election system reform and formation of the new CEC is vital on the eve of the upcoming Parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 2003.
