Pro-Presidential Election Alliance Formed

(Tbilisi. April 7, 2003. Civil Georgia) – At the meeting of the three pro-governmental political groups and President Shevardnadze on April 5, which was held in the State Chancellery (President?s administration), election bloc with President in the head was formed.

The Citizens? Union of Georgia, Socialists Party and the newly established popular movement Great Silk Road, which is led by the chief of the Railway Department Akaki Chkhaidze, form the election bloc.

The State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze, Chairman of the Citizens Union of Georgia Party will be responsible for the preparations for the upcoming Parliamentary election, scheduled for late October.

According to the daily 24 Saati Levan Mamaladze, the influential governor of Kvemo Kartli region also participated in the meeting. 

Leader of the Socialist Party, vice-speaker of the Parliament Vakhtang Rcheulishvili says that the newly formed election bloc holds consultations with other political parties and movements as well, but he refrains to name them.
