Georgia Might Dispatch Officers to Iraq
(Tbilisi. April 11, 2003. Civil Georgia) – US embassy in Tbilisi reported today that the consultation are held at the US Central Command, Tampa, Florida between the representatives of the Georgian Defense Ministry and the US army discuss possibility of dispatching Georgian officers to Iraq.
According to the Public Affairs Section of the US embassy no particular decision has been taken so far.
However the Georgian Ministry of Defense (MoD) reported today that the decision has already been taken and several Georgian officers will be sent to Iraq ?to observe the ongoing situation.?
?The number of the officers and the date of their departure is not set so far. Their participation in the military operations is absolutely ruled out,? Nino Sturua, Spokesperson for the Georgian MoD told Civil Georgia today.
Georgia is among the countries supporting US-led war in Iraq. Georgian authorities express readiness to render ?any kind of assistance? to the coalition forces.
