Parliamentary Special Session to Discuss Rule of CEC Composition
(Tbilisi. April 16, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary special session today will discuss the rule of composition of the Central Election Commission (CEC), proposed by President Shevardnadze.
According to the proposal the CEC will be composed with 11 non-political party members. 9 candidatures will be proposed by the President to the Parliament for approval. Two other candidatures will be proposed by the authorities of the Adjarian and Abkhazian Autonomous Republics.
It is anticipated that all the Parliamentary opposition factions will oppose the proposed draft, as it would endorse creation of the pro-Presidential CEC.
