Burjanadze, Shevardnadze Talked Over Parliament, Elections

(Tbilisi. April 17, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze told the reporters after meeting with President Shevardnadze today that she discussed the situation in the Parliament and improvement of the election system with the President.

Burjanadze said that she expressed concern with the moves of the pro-governmental Parliamentary factions that hinder the Parliament?s work.

?I also expressed my protest regarding the President?s proposal on rule of composition of the Central Election Commission, which if approved would endorse 10 pro-Presidential candidatures in the commission out of 11, that is inadmissible,? Nino Burjanadze said.

?I hope President Shevardnadze will take into consideration my position regarding these issues,? she added.
