Georgia Says Chechen Intruder Deported, Not Extradited

(Tbilisi. April 18, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian law enforcers reported on April 17 that the Georgian side ?extradited to Russia? one alleged Chechen militant detained in Georgia.

However, Georgian State Security Ministry claims that Georgia ?just deported Russian citizen from Georgia and did not extradite him.?

Georgian law enforcers detained Amirkhan Ligidov in Pankisi gorge together with the Japanese citizen last year.

Russian media sources reported that Ligidov is allegedly the member of the Chechen warlord Ruslan Gelaev, which was hiding in Pankisi gorge till summer 2002.
