Shevardnadze Demands Rapid Investigation of the Incident in the Parliament

(Tbilisi, May 7, 2003. Civil Georgia) – President of Georgia is outraged with the fighting incident in the Parliament, when several MPs were injured during the quarrel on May 5.

“If the Parliament members want to fight, they should do it somewhere else. I am not worrying about Rcheulishvili. I am worrying because of those boys of the Parliament’s security service, who tried to interfere to settle the situation, but were injured seriously” – said Shevardnadze at today’s Government Meeting.

Shevardnadze instructed the General Procuracy to investigate the case within one week. The incident involved representatives of the Socialist and United Democrats factions.
