British Envoy Discussed Abkhaz Issue in Tbilisi, Sokhumi
(Tbilisi, May 9, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Sir Brian Fall, which is the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Georgia met Georgian President Shevardnadze today to discuss Abkhaz conflict settlement.
On May 8 British envoy held talks with the leadership of the breakaway Abkhaz Republic in Sokhumi.
After the meeting with the President Brian Fall said that the UK supports Georgia’s territorial integrity. However, he added that talks with the Abkhaz side are also necessary.
He said that the Abkhaz side is ready to start work on implementation of the Sochi agreement between Georgian and Russian Presidents, which considers restoration of the railway link between Russia and Georgia via Abkhazia, return of IDPs and rehabilitation of the power facilities in the breakaway region.
