“Enough!” Protest Action at the Police Stations
(Tbilisi, May 12, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Representatives of some Georgian civil organizations and students gathered again on the streets, demanding protection of the human rights. At noon, May 12, they started a protest action “Enough Violence! Enough Tortures!” in front of the Vake-Saburtalo district police station.
Lawyer Eka Beselia, one of the participants of the action, said that the Police keeps rudely violating the human rights.
“The suspects are being tortured in the preliminary detention cells. The process norms are also frequently violated. Caesar Putkaradze, lawyer of our company, was denied permission to meet his client for two days. Besides, our lawyer was insulted by the police officers” – Eka Beselia told Civil Georgia.
As Gvantsa Liparteliani, representative of the Liberty Institute, explained the Vake-Saburtalo Police Station was selected as a target of today’s protest action, because most of human rights violations facts take place at this station.
The similar actions were organized today in other regions of Georgia as well.
