Iran Offers Assistance in Abkhazian Conflict Resolution

(Tbilisi, May 27, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Iranian news agency IRNA reports that the IRI Ambassador to Georgia Hussein Aminian Tusi made a statement regarding readiness of the Iranian side to assist Georgia in Abkhazian conflict resolution process.

“Peace and security in the Caucasus are the main priorities of Iran’s foreign policy” the Ambassador said. He added President Shevardnadze’s upcoming visit to Iran will greatly contribute to further strengthening of ties between the two countries.

During the meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi in April, President Shevardnadze said that Georgia is ready to develop cooperation with Iran in culture, education and trade spheres.
