National Movement to Mobilize Public Support for Fair Elections

(Tbilisi, May 30 2003, Civil Georgia) (Tbilisi, May 30 2003, Civil Georgia) The National Movement leader Mikheil Saakshvili announced he plans to visit every Georgian distric to mobiilize communities in demand for fair elections. He says in this regard the National Movement will act to facilitate interests of all opposition parties.

Saakashvili called the current parliament paralyzed, saying that “ambiguous, absolutely unacceptable [elecoral] legislation could trigger destabilization in the country.”

“The government should understand that the people do not want to live in poverty any more and are willing to participate in the democratic elections”, – Saakashvili says.

Announcement comes after the parties have failed to find a compromise on election legislation.
