Shevardnadze Demands Order

(Tbilisi, June 4 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze speaking at the government?s session today said that the emergency meeting of the government should be convened to work out ?the special measures to secure order in the country.?

Shevardnadze commented regarding the June 3 protest rally in front of the Parliament organized by the opposition parties, calling it ?an incident,? which was illegal.

?Do not be afraid of the word ?emergency meeting.? To secure order is vital for conduction of the fair and democratic elections,? President Shevardnadze said.

He said that the relevant governmental structures will be involved in working out the measures to secure order, however President did not specify what kind of measures will be carried out.
