Shevardnadze Says IMF Suspends Cooperation with Georgia
(Tbilisi, June 10 2003, Civil Georgia) – At the urgent meeting with the ministers responsible for the economic issues today President Shevardnadze said that the ?International Monetary Fund has to suspend cooperation with Georgia temporarily.?
?The country will lose much with this decision,? he added.
The IMF Office in Tbilisi has made no official statement regarding the President?s statement so far.
President said that the IMF decision is caused with Georgia?s failure to implement the Fund?s recommendations.
?Our western partners and friends constantly warn us to keep good relations with the IMF,? President Shevardnadze said.
