(Tbilisi, June 17 2003, Civil Georgia) – The delegation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), led by Director Christian Strohal, arrived in Tbilisi on an official seven-day visit today. The visit aims at assessing and qualifying the pre-election situation in Georgia.
Within the frames of the visit Christian Strohal will meet with Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili, Public Defender Nana Devdariani and party leaders.
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which plans to observe the upcoming parliamentary election on 2 November 2003, sent an early assessment team to Georgia on 1-4 April to review the pre-election preparations.
